Rocky Mountain High!

Road trip to Colorado, what a great way to start the summer. Since we had an invitation to attend the Air Force Academy graduation, we decided to take the motor home for a ride.
The academy is an impressive place, and the "thunderbirds" put on quite a show. VP Biden gave the graduation address, so lots of security and men in black suits with sun glasses hovering around. He saluted and shook hands with 1040 grads, so must have had a sore arm on Thursday.
We golfed at the academy and in Breckenridge, took a train up Pikes Peek, and drove some scenic highways. Everywhere we went was very green and springy; lilacs and wild flowers blooming, baby calves, antelope playing, fresh cut hay, and running water.
Mother Nature at her finest! America the Beautiful!

"The Quilt"

Here it is with the borders and quilting - it soon will be off in the mail to Bemidji for finishing.

In memory..

This flag pole was salvaged from the Midway Motel two winters ago. It stood beside the "no vacancy" sign. It is a family heirloom for Butch. He painted it and it now stands in our front yard. Real flagpoles, like this one, have a swivel top so that flags don't get twisted with the wind.
The flag is from my Dad. He was very patriotic, and loved displaying a flag on holidays. This flag is not just one printed piece of fabric, but stripes, sewn together. The stars are embroidered. It is a treasure!
A great memorial to three wonderful people in our lives: Gertrude, Uncle Hilary, and Edwin.

Bag Ladies and More

We may need to change the name of the blog to "Bag Ladies" - Even though you've seen it I need to add my finished bag for the record. Kelly too has dug into her Anderson Fabric and found some she plans to make for a gift - after Florida

And here's the two table runners

What's that Smell?

Its the smell of homemade bread! Between the activities of the weekend, I tried my hand at making bread. The front one is a poorly shaped and sized cinnamon loaf. I need more cinnamon and smaller area - but it was still pretty good. I made some yummy buns with the rest.

Planted

I took a clump of these Hen & Chicks from mom's garden last weekend. I love them in between rocks - they are just so perfect. I also planted a bunch of lily of the valleys in the dark corner behind my air conditioner. Hopefully they will fill out and hid the hose and junk that's back there.

My sewing room is closed for the season

This is a really cute bag, but I will tweak the handle when I make it again. The outside is a heavy denim stripe and the lining is a flannel. I used a stiff iron on interfacing on the lining so the bag has a nice shape. The patches and handle are suppose to be of a leather or vinyl, I just let them fray out, fringey, and I dont like that.
Now stop it! I have flowers to plant, a bike to ride, and there is golf! No more bags!

bag challenge

SEW, why have I been filling 2 drawers with fabric from Andersons? If I didn't think that golfing would soon take precedence over sewing, I would challenge my sister to a bag contest.
I hate myself for starting a new project when two are idling on my sewing table. But, I bought a new bag pattern that I will start tomorrow!

A perfect weekend

I just had the best weekend!
My favorite sister, my two smart, fun nieces, the north shore of Lake Superior, buying fabric, lunching, golfing, flower shopping, eating, wine, more wine!

"pickels"

The funnies got me going this morning. (Think I'll start a journal)
